When you are making hard boiled eggs, how long is a question that can make or break your hard boiled egg adventures. For most of us, making hard-boiled eggs seems simple: put eggs in boiling water for a certain period of time, and then pull them out. We have all had that question though. “Hard boiled eggs, how long do we cook you?” The answer can be very simple – about 15 – 20 minutes. However, if you want hard boiled eggs that aren’t tough and rubbery and don’t have a green ring around the middle, it is easy and can be done in less time than it takes to get payday loans.

What causes green hard boiled eggs

We’ve all seen that green ring after we’re done boiling eggs – and not only does it look odd, but you can taste the change in flavor. The culprit of these hard boiled eggs going green is in the egg itself – sulfur. Sulfur is a chemical that occurs naturally in eggs, but when you’re boiling eggs there is a greater possibility it’ll come out. When boiling eggs, the sulfur is released and the flavor, texture and color of the hard boiled eggs are all affected. The yolk gets that green ring around it. The white gets rubbery and the yolk itself is dry and crumbly.

How to make hard boiled eggs

If you don’t want your hard boiled eggs to have that green ring and sulfur taste, how do you go about making your hard boiled eggs? How long should you cook them? The American Egg Board has boiled eggs more than 30 dozen times to be able to answer this question.

Place your eggs in a saucepan or pot in a single layer. Cover them with cold water so there’s about inch of water above the eggs. Put the pot over a high-heat burner. Once the water boils, remove it from the burner and cover it with a tight-fitting lid. Let the eggs sit in the hot water. Medium eggs should sit for 12 minutes, large eggs for 15 minutes and extra-large eggs for 18 minutes. Once their cooking time is up, immediately remove the eggs from the hot water and put them in cold water to stop the cooking.

Making deviled eggs

Hard-boiled eggs can be used for thousands of different things — dye their shells, use them in egg salad, on a chef’s salad, for potato salad, or in your favorite deviled eggs recipe. Deviled eggs are the most popular way to use hard boiled eggs, and that is an incredibly tasty solution – a special dish that doesn’t require the best payday loans.

To make basic deviled eggs, slice your hard-boiled eggs lengthwise. Scoop out the yolk, and combine it in a bowl with enough Miracle Whip, mayonnaise, ranch dressing, or oil and vinegar to make a paste. Blend in flavorings – anything from crumbled bacon or chopped fresh basil to pickle relish. Refill the egg whites with the yolk paste, and you’ve got the best deviled eggs on the block.
